Meet the Team at Go West – Cath (Tour Guide)
Here at Go West, we employ over 40 of the industry’s most enthusiastic and dedicated individuals. Today we catch up with our Tour Guide and all-round superstar Cath, to find out about what it’s like to work as a guide in some of Australia’s most beautiful locations.
First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself!
I have a love of camping, eating great food and wine, and spending time with friends and family when I’m not at the wheel of a touring vehicle. It’s hard to stop me talking, except for when I’m eating!
How did you come to work as a Tour Guide for Go West!
I started as a tour guide with Go West after working at Rochford for about a year as a Segway tour guide. It was a weekend job that I did alongside my job in the fitness industry as a gym instructor, personal trainer and group fitness leader. Once I started guiding day tours I knew I had found my new passion, and changed career to become a tour guide.
What is your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is meeting so many amazing travellers and giving them an unforgettable day out on their visit to Melbourne.
What is the greatest challenge you have faced as a guide?
My greatest challenge I have faced…. is not eating Dooley’s ice cream in Apollo Bay on every Great Ocean Road tour! Yum!!!
Which is your favourite Go West tour and why?
I can’t decide which tour is my favourite… I love the beautiful Great Ocean Road. Every tour provides different experiences in weather, ocean, climate, season, animals and wonderful people. It is so amazing to take people on a journey through three distinctly different sections and you can’t help but be mesmerized by the power of Mother Nature.
The Yarra Valley is my home so this tour also rates very highly with me. I am proud of where I live and love sharing my love of food, wine and the valley with everyone.
What is your most important advice for guests visiting Melbourne for the first time.
My most important advice is…. Come back to Australia again soon, there is way too much to see in one visit. Also give Vegemite a go, it’s the best Aussie food you can eat!
What is your favourite Australian animal and why?
My favourite Australian animal is a hairy nose wombat, because anyone with a hairy nose needs a lot of love.
Tell us about your funniest guest story.
The funniest experience I had was when a lovely guest on my Great Ocean Road tour give me her Hawaiian shirt off her back at the end of the day, because I had mentioned that I really liked it!
Cath and the rest of our amazing team here at Go West are ready to give you an unforgettable day trip with Great Ocean Road Tours, Phillip Island Tours, Grampians Day Tours and more. Book yours today.
