Different Ways to Use Wine
As delicious and indulgent as it is, wine can be used for other purposes besides drinking!
As of 2012, Australia is one of the world’s largest wine producers, ranking at an impressive 7th position out of 41 countries. Considering this warrants the fact that we must know a thing or two about the art of wine making, the team at Go West Australia would like to invite you on one of our exquisite Yarra Valley wine tours – tantalise your tastebuds with some of the best food and wine the region has to offer!
Let’s get to it, here are some rather uncommon uses for wine that you may or may not have come across.
- Beautiful fabric dye
We’re all familiar with that disastrous, cringe worthy moment when someone accidently tips their glass of wine onto an expensive white leather couch or a brand new top, and proceeds to frantically attempt scrubbing it off to no avail. Depending on the wine, you’ll get lovely shades varying from pale pink to a rich red.
- Beauty applications
Due to red wine’s antioxidant and acidic properties, some women attest to its skin softening and brightening abilities, likening it to any store bought toner.
- Removal of grease stains
Accidental or leftover grease stains on the driveway or in the garage can get rather unsightly over time. Why not pour some leftover white wine onto it and let the alcohol and acidity of it work its magic?
- Healing of bruises
This may or may not be another old wife’s tale but apparently if you soak a piece of bread in wine and apply it on a bruise, healing can be expedited due to its flavonoids that work to soothe inflammation.
- Brain and heart magic
Studies have proven that polyphenols in wine can increase oxygen and blood flow to the brain, thus boosting cognitive ability. There has also been extensive research into a glass of red wine a day and reducing the chances of heart attacks.
