During June, July, August whale sightings are common throughout the coastline along the Great Ocean Road.
During this time sightseeing flags are placed at points on the coastline where there has been regular sightings, letting people know to take a look out to sea for a chance to spot the whale migration.
Humpback whales and Southern Right whales are the most common whales to see. They make an annual migration from the cold waters of Antarctica to the oceans surrounding Australia.
The lookouts along the 12 Apostles coastline are a great place to look out to see and spot them, as the lookouts are high up on the cliffs. But even as you make the drive along the Great Ocean Road, you might get lucky and spot one passing by.
