Australian wildlife, spectacular beaches and of course Penguins are all on the list of why you should take a tour to Phillip Island.
An easy and enjoyable day tour from Melbourne, is Phillip Island. The island is most famous for its Little Penguins. The colony of penguins living on Phillip Island is the largest in the world of this particular species. This means guaranteed sighting of penguins when you visit the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island.
If you are visiting Melbourne and want to see some of the local beaches and wildlife – our Phillip Island Day Tour is a great way to do it. You can sit back and relax while your guide takes you to some fantastic locations. Take the stress out of organising your own day trip to Phillip Island and join us on a tour!
Your guide will show you all the best locations
One of the best reasons to visit Phillip Island on a tour instead of on your own is because your guide will show you all the best locations. No need to research and plan out your journey, we have put together an outstanding tour that showcases the best of Phillip Island, as well as Melbourne’s colourful Brighton Beach and the many Australian animals at Moonlit Sanctuary.
Penguin Parade
The main attraction on Phillip Island are the resident Little Penguins that nest on the island’s beaches. They go out to the ocean to fish when they are hungry and return at the end of each day. This is when you can view the Little Penguins returning to the island with full bellies.
The Penguin Parade facilities provide seating and boardwalks so you too can walk through the sand dunes and view these penguins up close – without disturbing their daily ritual. It’s an amazing sight and a highlight of any trip to Phillip Island to see penguins up close. Your guide will show you all the best locations for viewing the Little Penguins up close.
Nobbies Boardwalk & Seal Rocks
The Nobbies are dome-shaped rock formations off the coast of Phillip Island. They provide an important home to the island’s Little Penguins. They can be viewed from the boardwalks at Point Grant and the Nobbies Visitor Centre. Viewing the Nobbies before sunset gives you fantastic views out to the Southern Ocean and across Western Port Bay.
Seal Rocks are flat rocks further off the coast of Phillip Island. They are a home to Melbourne’s largest colony of Australian fur seals. They feed in the waters surrounding Phillip Island and can be found resting and sleeping on the rocks. At Point Grant there are binoculars along the boardwalk which can be used to spot the marine creatures out on Seal Rocks.
Woolamai Beach
Woolamai Beach at Phillip Island is renowned for its stunning surf beach with the pink granite cliffs of Cape Woolamai in the distance. It is one of the top surf spots on Phillip Island, however the big swells and beach breaks are for experienced surfers only. The beach is 4.2 kilometres long and is on the southern side of the island.
Brighton Beach
You can visit Melbourne’s most colourful beach on our Phillip Island day tour from Melbourne. Brighton Beach is our first stop on the tour, just a short drive from the city centre. It is a great place to take photos and scroll along the sand to admire the many different designs of the wooden structures.
Moonlit Sanctuary
Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park is a home to many native Australian animals. It is a fantastic place to get up close to animals such as kangaroos, koalas and wallabies. You can also view lesser-known Australian animals such as quolls, potoroos and gliders. In addition you can learn about the conservation work undertaken by the Moonlit Sanctuary team to protect these species.
Learn more about Australia’s awesome wildlife
If Australian wildlife is on your bucket list for your visit to Melbourne, then taking a tour to Phillip Island is going to provide a big tick! We visit Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, where your guide will show you around. There are many Australian animals to see up close, including wombats, koalas, Tasmanian devils and an emu. You can also hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies at this fantastic wildlife sanctuary.
On Phillip Island it is the penguins who are the stars of the show. Your guide will tell you all about these magnificent little creatures who are nesting on the island year round. Taking a tour will let you learn more and you’ll also have great access to the Penguin Parade, plus tips from your guide to make the most of the experience.
Entry to all the parks is included
When you take a Phillip Island Day Tour with Go West, entry to both the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park and the Phillip Island Penguin Parade is included in the price of your tour. Your guide will take you to both destinations, as well as our our tour locations on the day. You’ll be given priority entry at both locations, with more time to spend enjoying the animals!
Comfortable transfer back to Melbourne after the Penguin Parade
The Phillip Island Penguin Parade occurs at dusk each night. This is when the Little Penguins return from the ocean and waddle across the sand then through the sand dunes. This means that once you have finished watching the sun will have set and the roads back to Melbourne will be dark.
Rather than trying to drive yourself home after a long day, we recommend taking a tour. You can sit back and relax at the end of the day, with a comfortable transfer back to the city. No need to navigate home on your own, your tour guide will drop you back to your pick up point or hotel in the city.
