What’s on? Moomba Festival in Melbourne!
Kicking off in Melbourne this weekend, Moomba Festival is Australia’s largest free community festival!
Moomba boasts an action packed program including the famous Moomba Parade, food trucks, carnival rides, sports competitions, and of course the wacky Birdman Rally. Be sure to make your way down to the banks of the Yarra River this Labour Day weekend. So let’s jump in and take a look at some of the highlights of the festival!
Moomba Parade
The famous Moomba Parade showcases a spectacle of colours and creative designs that will stick with you for a long time to come. Among the parade you may find everything ranging from dance troupes, to giant floats, to community groups, so there is sure to be something to see for all. The parade will be opened by the Wurundjeri Tribe on Monday the 11th of March, so be sure to be there.
Moomba Carnival
Throughout the festival you can visit the Moomba Carnival. It is filled with rides for young or old, courageous or safety-oriented, with the most blood-pumping ride being the Beast, which is for the real stout-of-heart. Do keep in mind that the carnival is quite spread out over the Festival area, so experiencing each ride may take you on quite the tour.
Food
The Moomba festival brings people from all different backgrounds together, so what is the logical conclusion? Lots of delicious food! On the festival you can find all the foods you can possibly imagine and more, with various European foods, Juicy American BBQ, meals from across Asia and South American delicacies that will make you taste the passion.
Birdman Rally
The Moomba Festival is home to one of the most creative charity fundraising events: The Birdman Rally. Here, brave hearts and creative souls come together to leap over the Yarra river using their own man-made flying instruments and as much courage as they can muster. And of course, all of this is for the benefit of Charity.
Monarchs
And of course, who can forget the iconic crowning of the festival’s monarchs? They will preside over the Parade and become icons of the year’s festival. Usually they are selected from Moomba’s greatest benefactors, so we are waiting with anticipations for what familiar faces we will see this year.
