Melbourne’s White Night Returns This Weekend!
White Night Melbourne will return to the streets, laneways and parks of the city this Saturday 17 February 2018. From colourful projections and awe-inspiring installations to interactive performances, and an array of musical hubs, there is so much to see. Dusk till dawn, enjoy an all-night wonderland with more than 80 free events celebrating music, food, film, art and light in and around Melbourne’s CBD!
White Night is your chance to see Melbourne in a completely different light. Inspired by another event that happened in Paris in 2001 called ‘Nuit Blanche, the festival has developed into a global movement celebrated across 12 cities worldwide. Melbourne joined the movement in 2013. With hundreds of street performances and an average of 500.000 people celebrating, the city turns into a 12-hour outdoor festival.
This year’s festival is shaping up to be to be the biggest of them all, with hundreds of installations spanning across the city from Carlton Gardens to the National Gallery of Victoria. The festival of 2018 has been divided into four different themes: Flames at Carlton Gardens, Swing Central around Flinders St, Innocence on the banks of the Yarra River, and finally Precipitation which will surround Melbourne Central. Due to all the road closures on this day, public transport is your bet best whilst navigating the city. Public Transport Victoria will be providing extra services for all public transport, but be sure to prepare yourself for large crowds and delays when traveling around the CBD.
